Knowledge of occupational health and safety principles is fundamental to workers, but more importantly to supervisors and managers who are legally accountable to ensure the workplace is safe for everyone. Good businesses value safety management because they know that the way to sound and productive business is ensuring workers aren't injured and equipment isn't damaged which can lead to out-of-control costs. You, as post-secondary students will soon take leadership roles in the workplace. This will refresh some safety knowledge you may have previously acquired, but also provide you with a management perspective of health and safety.

We are grateful to your faculty and institutions who have agreed to offer this first-in-Canada e-module for post-secondary students. They understand the importance of health and safety knowledge for their graduates and that this information may provide you with a competitive advantage with prospective employers.

Just a note. This is a pilot e-learning site that will grow to provide more discipline-specific materials. You will be asked for your feedback near the end of the modules so we can learn from you and improve the content and learning experience.

There are 3 modules in the campus. The first two will provide key health and safety information: one on safety basics and another on managing health and safety. The last module, Passport to Safety is a test . You will receive 100 questions in four main topic areas – 25 questions per section. They are all multiple choice and true/false based on the information and concepts presented in the two other modules.

At the very end, you will be able to print a transcript that will indicate your mark in each of the four topic areas and an overall mark. PLEASE NOTE: YOUR TRANSCRIPT WILL SHOW YOUR 1 ST SCORE ON EACH OF THE TESTS. You will be able to re-take to further your understanding of the material but scores from subsequent attempts will not be appear on your transcript . As previously mentioned, the transcript will also have your name, faculty, institution, etc. on it. This transcript will be of value in two ways – one, to turn into your professor/session leader who assigned you the work, and two, to include in your portfolio when looking for a job.
